The arena was designed as the district’s central venue, capable of hosting a wide variety of events. The primary function is to deliver a competition floor for UIL athletic games, including basketball and volleyball, as well as UIL Fine Arts competitions and performances. Its expanded floor design also accommodates robotics competitions, Special Olympics, graduation ceremonies, and staff development events—ensuring maximum flexibility for both present and future needs.

The arena features a generous competition floor surrounded by seating for more than 1,300 spectators in a dynamic “U”- shape configuration. To create a lively, energetic environment, the design incorporates a lower seating area with hybrid seating that brings students and families closer to the action while providing separation barriers ensuring crowd control and player safety.

The main spectator area utilizes a combination of fixed and retractable seating for the purpose of achieving “flexspace” for hosting a variety of events in this venue. To further enhance engagement, the design integrates a four-sided high-definition video board where HISD students will develop and showcase custom media content—merging athletics, arts, and academics in one vibrant space.

The competition floor itself utilizes one of the most advanced athletic flooring systems available today, prioritizing athlete safety, performance, and long-term durability and is flanked by a large enclosed viewing area with a clear view of the court area at lower court level. This unique & close-proximity relationship will facilitate special engagement opportunities for VIP guests, scouts, and coaches to connect with the student-athletes in the future.
