Top-Ranked ICF JROTC Facility
The new McCollum High School Army JROTC Facility currently stands as the first K-12/education school facility constructed with Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) in San Antonio, Texas. Ranked among the top 10% of JROTC Facilities constructed in the nation, this first-class facility is designed to accommodate a state-of-the-art indoor 8-lane shooting range, rifle armory, two classrooms, offices, locker rooms, public restrooms and a large storage/uniform room. By utilizing ICF as a demising wall for superior sound control, the multi-purpose indoor shooting range achieved the required noise control to ensure the expected acoustic performance critical for classroom settings. Furthermore, and highlighting the benefits of ICF, this envelope system was ideal construction system of choice due to its inherent properties in withstanding construction issues typical of expansive soils prevalent in this region of San Antonio. To showcase this envelope system as part of the building interior design, the main entry hallway features a prominent exposed concrete wall constructed with the Nudura One Series, one-sided ICF forms. The building exterior incorporates the existing campus architectural style in utilizing a cream and reddish colored brick with the ultimate goal of delivering a campus landmark that represents the emerging brand of the High School JROTC program.
