Historic District New Construction
Architectura SA designed a new IBC Bank branch location in the former state capital and historic town of Guthrie, Oklahoma. The site is located adjacent to the Guthrie Historic District that is listed in the National Register in 1974 and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1999. The unique challenges of this site were to construct a new insulated concrete form structure for a banking facility that would blend seamlessly to the historic district without detracting from the historic context of the surrounding environment.
Special attention was given to ensure the building was sensitively designed with consideration to mass, scale, proportions, and exterior finishes that would complement the historic district. Most importantly, the use of concrete forms radically simplified the construction of the large entrance arches and made it economically feasible to keep the appearance of the new building in line with the historic district’s design guidelines. The ingenuity in the utilization of ICF construction to achieve these design goals is reflective in the end result with superior quality construction that will support and be a part of the present history of Guthrie, Oklahoma.
